3/100 Days of Creativity: A Moment of Joy

“What will you do?” Joan asked eagerly.

“Oh Joan, it’s everything I hoped for! Dr Radcliffe asked if I wanted to work for him. He wants a professional thornton steward and even though I haven’t been to college he really liked the way I said his number.”

“What is his number?”

“737-83-78,” said Peggy breathlessly. “Dr Radcliffe said I would make a great first impression with patients. Having someone like me at the front desk answering the phone would help take their mind off their worries.”

“Oh Peggy, I’m so excited for you!” squealed Joan in delight.

For 100 consecutive days I will write and post a short story (about 100 words) incorporating a randomly selected word from Afterliff: A new dictionary of things there should be words for.

Today’s word:
thornton steward n.
One who answers his telephone by clearly stating the number.

Tomorrow’s word:
debach v.
To disengage gracefully from a cello.

Well!! I never knew there was a word for what my Aunt did. I can still hear her voice announcing “6490”. No other greeting, just that.
